US May Suspend Immigration Checks at Major Airports Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Several of America’s busiest international travel hubs could face major delays before the FIFA World Cup. The Justice Department has identified key airports in so-called “sanctuary” cities and states under consideration for halted immigration and customs processing. Affected terminals include Boston Logan, Denver International, Philadelphia International, O’Hare in Chicago, LAX, JFK and Newark in New York, Seattle-Tacoma and San Francisco. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told Fox News that plans are being drafted behind closed doors but no final decision has been made. He argued that international flights should avoid cities accused of blocking federal immigration policies. If approved, the proposal could disrupt travel, tourism and cargo operations just as millions of overseas fans arrive for next year’s tournament in the United States.
