Former Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Resigns to Contest Bauchi Governorship

Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has resigned as Nigeria’s Foreign Minister to run for Bauchi State governor. In his resignation letter, he thanked President Tinubu and the ministry staff. He praised the 4D foreign policy strategy as a guiding framework for Nigeria’s diplomacy. During his tenure, Tuggar led humanitarian evacuations, scholarship schemes, and launched a Nigerians-in-Diaspora database. He also deepened bilateral ties and boosted economic diplomacy in the energy sector. He submitted his resignation to the Secretary to the Government’s office ahead of the March 31 deadline set by the electoral act.

It's interesting he praised the 4D strategy, yet moving into state politics might limit his capacity to influence Nigeria's foreign policy direction.

I'm not convinced a former minister's gratitude in a resignation letter guarantees genuine commitment to Bauchi's grassroots issues.

Voters should review his achievements with the 4D framework and ask if that diplomatic experience addresses Bauchi's immediate development challenges.
