My HIV Scare After Protected Sex and Why I Took 30 Days of PEP

My HIV Scare After Protected Sex and Why I Took 30 Days of PEP

I had protected sex but 24 hours later felt a worm-like movement in my penis and noticed a slight discharge. Panic set in, so I went to the hospital for an HIV test and infection screening. My HIV result was negative, but I was treated for the infection. The doctor advised I start a 30-day course of PEP in case my partner was HIV positive, and also recommended she get tested. She tested negative too, which finally calmed my fear. Despite both negative results, the doctor insisted I finish the remaining 28 days of PEP for safety. I’m still confused how I got an infection with an intact condom. Please learn from my experience and protect your health.

I'm not sure symptoms play a role here; doctors usually prescribe PEP based on exposure risk, not on warning signs.

Even with negative HIV results and infection treatment, that discharge symptom sounds like it needed more specific clarification on its cause.

Taking PEP after a properly used condom seems a bit excessive, especially if there was no breach or known sero-positive partner.

In similar situations, getting tested early, following up on any discharge with STI screening, and sticking to medical advice can really ease anxiety.
