Stop Grilling Developers on SEO Rankings in Tech Interviews
I recently interviewed for a senior full-stack role requiring Next.js and Laravel expertise. I came prepared to discuss system architecture, database optimization, and APIs. Instead, the interviewer grilled me on how my code would magically put a brand-new site at #1 on Google for highly competitive keywords. That’s a misunderstanding of our role. Developers handle technical SEO: fast server-side rendering, clean semantic HTML, dynamic sitemaps, and schema markup so search engines can read the site. SEO specialists handle keyword research, content strategy, competitor analysis, and link building. Judging a developer’s engineering skills by a site’s ranking makes zero sense. Let’s keep interviews focused and fair. I’m open to collaboration as a full-stack developer – DM me.
