FG Forfeits Mining Site, Trucks and Over 3,000 Bags of Lithium and Mica from Illegal Syndicate
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi ordered the final forfeiture of assets seized from a Chinese-Nigerian illegal mining syndicate in Ogun State. The May 22, 2026 ruling followed an EFCC motion under Section 330 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. An EFCC affidavit detailed how the group mined mica and lithium across various Nigerian locations. The materials were brought to Ode-Remo LGA for sorting before planned export via Apapa Wharf and MMIA, Lagos. A sting on May 9, 2025 led to the arrests of two alleged Chinese kingpins and six Nigerians. Authorities recovered a Toyota 4Runner, three trucks loaded with minerals, and a 40-foot container holding 3,210 bags of mica and lithium. Justice Daniel Osiagor directed that all forfeited properties be disposed of in collaboration with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency. Sale proceeds will go into an interest-bearing account pending the defendants’ trial.
