Why Are Deltans Seen as 'Fake Igbos'?
I recently overheard a group in Delta calling Deltans “fake Igbos.” It caught me off guard as someone who believes in Nigerian unity beyond tribal lines. Growing up in Ondo State, I’ve heard other Yorubas question our identity. Yet hearing something similar in the East surprised me. They spoke about Asaba, Onitsha and even a wedding invite that was rejected because the groom was Delta-born. This made me wonder: do many Igbos really see Deltans as outsiders? I’m asking if this attitude is common or just an isolated view.
