Mystery Surrounds Death of Senior Customs Officer in Bauchi
Residents of Boi District in Bogoro LGA, Bauchi State, are mourning Mr Lumi Elisha Gwamis, 44, a senior officer of the Nigeria Customs Service and son of a former local government chairman. Some community members say he struggled with depression and may have taken his own life. His father described the loss as shocking, noting that his son appeared healthy before the sudden tragedy. The Nigeria Customs Service’s Federal Operations Unit Zone D in Bauchi has denied reports of suicide. According to its public relations officer, the service has no evidence suggesting Gwamis took his own life and says he was on annual leave for medical reasons. Funeral rites are scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, following a memorial service in Boi village. Authorities continue to investigate the unclear circumstances of his death.
