Did Peter Obi Just Shortchange the South East with a One-Term Promise?

Peter Obi’s vow to serve only one term if elected president raises serious questions for the South East. On whose behalf did he agree to limit our region to just four years in office? Since 1960, no Igbo leader has held Nigeria’s presidency longer than six months. Other regions have built sustained influence through multiple terms and extended tenures. Why then should the South East accept a self-imposed expiry date? Who authorised this pact? Our governors, traditional councils, business elite or Ohanaeze? What strategic calculation supports a one-term deal instead of full political integration? A single four-year term risks weakening executive authority, inviting lame-duck politics and immediate succession battles. Should the South East settle for symbolic occupancy or fight for enduring influence and national respect?
