ADC Leadership Delisting Sparks Heightened Security at INEC HQ

Security forces tightened control at INEC headquarters in Abuja after the commission delisted the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress. The decision came on Wednesday and triggered anger among supporters. Over 2,000 demonstrators, including ADC members and the Obidient Movement, gathered at the Maitama office shortly after the announcement. On Thursday morning, roads to the INEC complex were sealed off with police and DSS vehicles. INEC removed David Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary from its portal. It also refused to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe pending a Federal High Court decision. The commission said it will suspend recognition of all party factions until the court issues its final ruling.

It's possible the ADC supporters are overreacting since internal party processes can often lead to such administrative changes without broader implications.

To avoid further clashes, stakeholders should call for transparent review of ADC's internal dispute to restore confidence before election season heats up.
