Michael Olise’s Nigerian Cricket Heritage and World Cup Rise
French winger Michael Olise has revealed that his father, Vincent Olise, once played cricket for Nigeria before moving abroad. Vincent represented Lagos State, Foundations Cricket Club and the national side, even taking 10 wickets in a single innings during a West African tournament. Born in France to a Nigerian father and Algerian mother, and raised in England, Olise was eligible to represent four countries. Nigeria first approached him in 2020 under coach Gernot Rohr, but he ultimately chose France and featured at the 2026 World Cup. Vincent enjoyed a decade-long cricket career in Nigeria, later playing for British West Indian and London Nigerians clubs. He also excelled at badminton and university cricket matches, including memorable finals appearances in the NUGA Games. Michael credits his love of cricket and table tennis to his father’s influence. As Bayern Munich prepare a new contract, speculation grows over a possible move to Real Madrid following his impressive club and international performances.
