Nigeria’s Power Divide: How the Band Tariff System Fails Us All

I’m convinced Nigeria’s Band A, B, C electricity tariff system is one of the most unfair policies we’ve endured. On paper, higher bands pay more for longer supply and lower bands pay less for fewer hours. In reality, your feeder and connections decide your band—not your payment record. Government facilities and affluent estates always land on Band A while ordinary Nigerians remain stuck on Band C or D, seeing as little as six hours of electricity daily. Meanwhile, federal agencies owe over ₦100 billion to distribution companies. This debt cripples the sector and forces tariffs higher for everyone else. It’s time to scrap the Band system and enforce equal accountability. If top officials sat in the dark with the rest of us, real change would happen fast. What do you think—should we abolish the bands and demand fair treatment for all?

Does your local tariff band match the actual hours of supply, or is it just determined by your feeder connection quality?

I understand this can be confusing, do your tariff charges actually reflect the hours you get power or just your line's quality?

I dey feel you, this tariff setup clearly skips real supply hours and just chases feeder specs.

It's odd that paying more for longer supply doesn't guarantee better service when the feeder dictates your band.

I'm not convinced the policy itself fails; perhaps it's poor maintenance that mislabels feeders into bands.

You could start logging actual supply hours by band in your neighborhood and share data to highlight discrepancies.
