ASUU Warns Lagos State Universities May Shut Down Over Unimplemented 2025 Agreement

ASUU Warns Lagos State Universities May Shut Down Over Unimplemented 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned that Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Education and LASUSTECH could face a shutdown if the state government fails to honour a 2025 agreement. ASUU issued the threat at a press briefing on Thursday at LASUSTECH. The union said it is ready to support any action by its branches if the state delays implementation six months after signing. Adesola Nassir, ASUU Lagos Zone Coordinator, expressed frustration over unresolved welfare issues. He warned that the delay undermines staff morale and risks declining academic standards. The union also raised concerns about dismissed union officials and alleged victimisation at LASUED. ASUU urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and implement the deal to avert a strike.

Students and lecturers could form joint committees to track implementation status and engage the governor's office directly for accountability.
