Two Iron Rod Thieves Sentenced to One Year for Stealing Road Materials in Osun
The Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps secured the conviction of two men for stealing iron rods from a federal road project on the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway. Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni sentenced them to one year in prison after finding them guilty of stealing construction materials. The suspects were arrested during a routine midnight patrol on June 1, 2026. Operatives spotted them on a motorcycle carrying iron rods hidden in a sack. They attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. In their confessions, the men admitted this was not their first theft. They said they had stolen rods before and sold them to a scrap dealer for ₦35,000 each. They were arraigned on June 2 on a three-count charge of stealing under state law. The Corps Commander praised the professionalism of the operatives and the prompt handling by the judiciary. He stressed that safeguarding public infrastructure remains a top priority and urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.
