Igbo Youth Assembly Rejects Call to Sack SEDC Board, Plans Two-Day Convention

Igbo Youth Assembly Rejects Call to Sack SEDC Board, Plans Two-Day Convention

The Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly has disavowed any call to dissolve the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Board. It says no recognised Igbo youth body supports this demand. The statement clarifies that remarks credited to Mazi Okwu Nnabuike were his personal views and do not reflect the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo or its youth structures. A two-day convention will hold in Awka on June 18–19 to review SEDC’s performance, leadership challenges and broader regional development issues. The gathering will include major youth groups and stakeholders from across Igboland. The Assembly urges Igbo youths to await the outcome of this inclusive meeting. After deliberations, it will present a unified position on SEDC and other matters affecting the South East.

It's interesting how quickly the Igbo Youth Assembly distanced itself from Okwu Nnabuike's statement without clarifying his standing.

Claiming authority over every youth group seems hasty when there's no clear process for choosing those leaders.

Local stakeholders should organise transparent consultations before claiming to represent broader Igbo youth interests.
