Sowore Says DSS Is Withholding Justice Crack’s Passport, Blocking His Bail Compliance
Activist Omoyele Sowore has accused the Department of State Services of frustrating social critic Justice Crack’s release by refusing to hand over his passport. According to Sowore, Justice Crack has met all bail conditions except surrendering his international passport, which is still held by the DSS. Sowore argues that withholding the passport makes full compliance impossible and suggests the terms were designed to prolong Justice Crack’s detention despite a Federal High Court ruling. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted bail on May 18 with N5 million bond and strict surety requirements. The court ordered the surety to be a Grade Level 15 federal civil servant with proof of residence, salary statements, and an affidavit of means. Justice Crack was also directed to deposit his passport with the court registry—an instruction he cannot yet fulfill because the DSS refuses to release it.
