Ivory Coast Fans Barred from US World Cup Games After Visa Rejections

Ivory Coast Fans Barred from US World Cup Games After Visa Rejections

Ivory Coast home-based supporters have had their US visas rejected, the president of their national supporters committee says. This decision follows similar visa denials for a Somali referee and some Iranian team staff. Julien Kouadio Adonis of the National Committee of Elephants Supporters explains the US made it clear it did not want fans from certain countries on its soil. As a result, Ivory Coast supporters have cancelled their trip. The team will play in Philadelphia against Ecuador and Curaçao, and in Toronto against Germany. Only a few committee officials will travel to assist Ivorians already in the US, while over 1,000 fans are now expected at the matches.

It's odd the US would deny visas for these local Ivory Coast supporters but not address similar cases elsewhere.

I'm not convinced this is purely political; there might be procedural issues with visa applications that we're overlooking.

Supporters should verify all required documents well in advance and consider local embassies' guidance before reapplying for visas.
