Arms Factory Busted in Plateau: Army Seizes Sophisticated Weapons, Arrests Two

The Nigerian Army’s Operation Enduring Peace uncovered and raided a clandestine arms workshop in Gwandanu Village, Plateau State. Troops arrested two suspects on Wednesday during the fabrication of sophisticated firearms. Investigators recovered two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle and the industrial tools used in production. Equipment seized included generators, a welding machine, a drilling machine, a hand filler and a full technical toolbox. In a separate operation in Kaduna State, troops deployed with Forest Guards intercepted attackers who ambushed vigilante personnel. One suspect was arrested after fleeing into the bush, and an AK-47, an AK-49, a motorcycle and other items were recovered. The arrested individuals are in custody pending further investigation. Troops have intensified mop-up operations to track down any remaining locally fabricated weapons and disrupt the wider criminal network.

Do you think local power struggles or shadowy financiers drove them to build that arms workshop?

It's striking how sophisticated firearms were being fabricated in a remote village, raising questions about local security gaps and intelligence oversight.

I'm not convinced this raid alone will deter arms fabrication; without tackling root networks or corruption, these workshops might just relocate elsewhere.

Local communities should strengthen neighborhood watch programs and share any unusual activity with the army to prevent similar arms workshops from operating unnoticed.
