Lagos Partners with UNICEF to Strengthen Emergency Support for Vulnerable Residents

Lagos Partners with UNICEF to Strengthen Emergency Support for Vulnerable Residents

The Lagos State Government and UNICEF have joined forces to train officials and stakeholders on improving support for vulnerable residents during emergencies. The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, was held at The Patron Hotels in Sangotedo. Participants, including members of the Social Protection Technical Working Group and focal persons from various ministries, departments and agencies, explored strategies to prepare for economic hardship, climate disasters and public health crises affecting poor households. The Permanent Secretary emphasised the need for swift, adaptive response systems. UNICEF’s Social Policy Manager highlighted the goal of helping people not only survive but bounce back stronger. He also proposed expanding the state’s Single Social Register to better identify and assist those in need. Attendees described the training as practical and valuable. The workshop underscores the ongoing partnership between Lagos State and UNICEF to build a more responsive social protection system for women, children, older citizens and persons with disabilities.
