Oliseh Blames Pressure, Not Tactics, for South Africa’s 2-0 World Cup Loss

Oliseh Blames Pressure, Not Tactics, for South Africa’s 2-0 World Cup Loss — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh insists Bafana Bafana fell to psychological pressure rather than poor tactics in their opening World Cup defeat. He pointed to the 80,000-strong crowd at Mexico’s Azteca Stadium and the weight of expectations on the co-hosts. Oliseh said the atmosphere drained South Africa’s composure, leading to two red cards and a collapse. Mexico dominated possession and finished with 16 shots to South Africa’s three. Oliseh argued that the stage simply proved too large for Hugo Broos’s side to handle. South Africa now sit bottom of Group A and must regroup before facing Czechia in Atlanta without their suspended players.
