Nigeria to Send 200 Special Forces Troops to Türkiye for Training
Nigeria’s Defence Minister announced that an agreement has been reached to deploy 200 elite Special Forces personnel to Türkiye later this year. The pledge came after talks with his Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. Under the deal, the Turkish government will host the Nigerian contingent for a comprehensive training programme. Joint exercises are also planned before year’s end, alongside collaboration on defence equipment production and technology transfer. The minister noted that both countries bring decades of counter-insurgency experience to the partnership. He said this cooperation will boost Nigeria’s defence capabilities through shared training, co-production of hardware and staff exchanges. The annual Antalya forum, themed “Mapping Tomorrow, Managing Uncertainties,” drew ministers and diplomats from over 150 countries to discuss global security and diplomatic challenges.
