Police Arrest Driver and Guarantor Smuggling Stolen 28-Seater Bus Across Border

Police Arrest Driver and Guarantor Smuggling Stolen 28-Seater Bus Across Border — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Ogun State police foiled a cross-border trafficking attempt on June 12 after credible intelligence revealed a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster was staged at Idiroko for illegal export into Benin Republic. Led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, operatives intercepted the bus at Babaloke. They immobilised it by shooting a tyre, then arrested the company driver, Seun Lawal (46), and his guarantor, Ademola Oriyomi (38). DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the suspects confessed their plan to sell the vehicle abroad and use proceeds to relocate. The bus was recovered and the pair remain in custody as investigations continue to trace wider theft syndicates.

It's curious how the police got that intelligence tip just in time, but no word on how the smuggler network operates.

I dey wonder if driver really vet his guarantor before setting off, or we too quick to blame him without full details.

Border stations need regular vehicle inspections and shared databases so local and international police promptly flag stolen buses.
