1 / 2

A former Florida beauty queen, Skarlent Rodríguez, and her boyfriend, Jos Castro, were tragically discovered beneath the rubble of their collapsed apartment in Catia La Mar, Venezuela. They had been missing since the powerful June 24 earthquake struck La Guaira state. After an extensive search, their families announced their deaths on a joint fundraiser page, revealing they lay side by side in the wreckage until the end. Several of Castro’s relatives also perished in the disaster. Venezuelan authorities report at least 1,719 fatalities and around 5,000 injuries from last week’s earthquakes. The Miss Grand Florida organization paid tribute to Rodríguez’s warm spirit and lasting impact on everyone she met.
