ICPC Arrests El-Rufai’s Physician After Medical Visit Used for Political Meeting

The ICPC has confirmed the arrest of Professor Bello Abubakar, personal doctor to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for making false statements. He was taken into custody during an investigation into a court-approved medical visit. El-Rufai skipped his scheduled court appearance and requested his personal physician without prior notice. The ICPC says the request came at the urging of his wife, who also serves as one of his legal counsels. After officers escorted El-Rufai to a private wing of the National Hospital in Abuja, photos shared on social media showed him holding a political meeting with associates—including Professor Abubakar—rather than undergoing treatment. The ICPC describes this as a violation of court orders and vows to sanction any abuse of its goodwill.

Could this arrest of El-Rufai's doctor signal a broader crackdown on political figures using medical visits as cover?

Surely this arrest could mark the start of a broader probe into political figures using medical visits as cover.

It's interesting that the ICPC waited for a court-approved medical visit before making the arrest—seems they wanted an airtight case.

I'm not convinced this was purely political; perhaps the false statements allegation alone justified the doctor's detention.

We should follow this case closely and demand transparency on what evidence supports the claim of false statements.
