ADC Leadership Rift: Nafiu Bala Declares Himself Interim National Chairman, Resigns Deputy Role
By Funke Ogunlolu Nafiu Bala, former national deputy chairman of the African Democratic Congress and 2023 Gombe governorship candidate, has tendered his resignation and declared himself interim national chairman of the party. In a letter addressed to outgoing chairman Ralph Nwosu, he said the move aims to streamline party restructuring and foster effective coalitions. Bala insisted he remains committed to the ADC and is ready to serve in any capacity. He accused the David Mark-led interim leadership of hijacking party structures through unconstitutional means. He warned of legal action to challenge what he described as a “total surrender” of the party’s framework to external actors. Citing the party constitution’s succession provisions, Bala said he is now assuming the interim chairmanship. The announcement followed the handover of ADC leadership by the former national executive committee to the former Senate President and his team.
