Why Moniepoint Can’t Fill 500 Roles: A Wake-Up Call for Nigerian Youth
Moniepoint’s CEO recently revealed that over 500 vacancies remain unfilled simply because there aren’t enough qualified Nigerians for the jobs. He blamed our broken educational system, social media distraction, the hookup and Yahoo lifestyles, and a creeping culture of laziness. In a country teeming with jobseekers, it’s shocking that companies with healthy pay packages still struggle to find talent. This problem starts early. Many children spend hours on entertainment content yet can’t solve real-life problems or discuss basic financial concepts. Schools often teach outdated curriculums, and parents focus on grades instead of practical skills. To prepare young Nigerians for future opportunities, parents should monitor online consumption, introduce money and business talk early, teach practical skills like problem-solving and communication, encourage curiosity, and reward productivity over rote learning. Only then can we fill those empty seats.
