UNIZIK Unions Suspend Strike After Breakthrough in FG Salary Talks
The Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has suspended its strike with immediate effect, following a congress held on Monday, May 11, 2026. Union leaders commended members for their discipline during the shutdown, which began on May 1 and disrupted critical university functions across the system. They noted significant progress in talks after the Federal Government formally withdrew the contested 30% consolidated salary increase letter. The committee granted the FG two weeks to conclude discussions and sign a Memorandum of Action. Staff have been directed to resume duties immediately but remain vigilant during the suspension period. Officials warned that any failure to honour the agreement would prompt a more extensive and indefinite strike. They also urged members to continue enhancing their skills and contributing positively to the university system.
