Hikers Rescue Abandoned Baby Boy in Plateau State Bush

Hikers Rescue Abandoned Baby Boy in Plateau State Bush — 1 of 2
1 / 2

During a hike in Plateau State on Saturday, May 16, a group led by Paul Kavwam heard a baby’s cries coming from the bush along the trail. They found a newborn boy wrapped in a towel and immediately checked with women fetching firewood nearby, who confirmed the child was not theirs. Kavwam and his group then rushed the infant to Angwa Rukuba police station in Jos North. He was later transferred to the Nasarawa police station and handed over to the DPO for further care. It is heartbreaking that someone could abandon a child, especially when so many families yearn for a baby. May God have mercy on us all.

What do folks think happened that led someone to abandon a newborn along a Plateau State trail like this?

Do we know if any eyewitnesses saw signs before hikers discovered the baby?

It's surprising that no one saw or heard any signs of the baby earlier, especially with hikers and women nearby.

I agree, it's quite strange nobody noticed any cries or movement in that spot, especially with hikers all around.

It's easy to praise the rescuers, but what about community responsibility for checking such trails more often instead of waiting for strangers?

Local groups should set up regular patrols or install clear signs warning passersby to report any unusual sounds or movements in the bush.
