ADC to Petition NJC After High Court Orders Party Deregistration
The African Democratic Congress has condemned a Federal High Court ruling that ordered its deregistration. In a statement on June 15, the party described the judgement as an attempt to suppress opposition voices. The court directed INEC to remove the ADC and four other parties for allegedly failing to meet electoral performance requirements in the 2023 general election and subsequent by-elections. The ADC says INEC told the court there was no legal basis for deregistration and that the judge ignored a subsisting Court of Appeal stay order. The party alleged the case was driven by interests tied to the ruling party and warned that the ruling threatens democratic governance. The ADC has vowed to use every legal avenue and rally democratic stakeholders to defend its rights. It will petition the National Judicial Council over what it calls judicial misconduct and insists it will appear on the ballot in the 2027 elections.
