Nigerian Arrested in Istanbul for $2.5M Romance Scam
A Nigerian man was arrested in Istanbul for allegedly defrauding a Hong Kong dentist of $2.5 million. He used an online profile as “Richard,” a wealthy American businessman. Over two years, he convinced the victim to send money for a supposed investment in Turkey. After Hong Kong authorities made no headway, the dentist engaged a Turkish lawyer. She filed a complaint with Istanbul prosecutors, who launched a fraud investigation. Turkish police traced the funds through local bank accounts. They arrested Kingsley O. and five accomplices. All have been arraigned and the case is now before the court.
