Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos: How Reforms Drove Its Rise to Nigeria’s Top Business State
At the recent 2026 Reform and Diplomatic Roundtable, Lagos topped the subnational business environment rankings with an impressive score of 85.6%. The event, organised by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council in collaboration with UK International Development, celebrated the state’s strong infrastructure, efficient regulations, and robust market access. PEBEC Director-General Zahrah Audu highlighted key reforms such as end-to-end digital land registration, an automated tax system, one-stop levy payments, and a functional commercial court. These measures have slashed delays, boosted investor confidence, and reinforced Lagos’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading commercial hub. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu credited consistent policy discipline, infrastructure upgrades, and the Lagos State Development Plan 2052 for the climb from 29th to first place in four years. He vowed to sustain these efforts and keep Lagos the nation’s most business-friendly state. Abdul-Lateef lives and works in Ikeja GRA.
