After Oriire Attacks, Afenifere Questions South-West Governors’ Security Response
Pan-Yoruba group Afenifere has urged South-West governors to strengthen security after three schools in Oriire LGA, Oyo State were attacked last Friday. The group said the recent violence raises questions about earlier measures. Afenifere’s leader, Reuben Fasoranti, expressed sadness that the attacks occurred during the week of his 100th birthday. He sympathised with victims and prayed for a swift recovery for the injured. The organisation warned that criminal gangs may be spreading insecurity across the South-West and parts of Kwara State. It said planned CCTV projects, surveillance aircraft and other measures have yet to show urgency or progress. While calling on governors to make residents’ safety a top priority, Afenifere praised the Inspector General of Police for launching a violent crime response unit. It added that state governments must do more alongside federal efforts to protect lives and property.
