Many leaders excuse their greed by claiming our large population naturally lowers per capita wealth. This narrative hides deliberate theft and complacency. Under both Jonathan and Abacha, officials spent lavishly abroad. They laundered oil revenues through shell companies and foreign banks while most Nigerians stayed poor. Asian nations once poorer than us invested in education, infrastructure and anti-corruption. They grew their economies. Meanwhile, we became known as the poverty capital of the world. It’s time to reject these excuses and demand real accountability from our leaders.
