FG to Expand Deep Blue Maritime Security to Bakassi, Igbokoda and Other Vulnerable Corridors
The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy will extend the Deep Blue Project to cover Bakassi Peninsula, Igbokoda and other high-risk coastal corridors. This was announced during the graduation of 492 advanced combat personnel in Elele, Rivers State. The expansion aims to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture. It will boost operational capacity, improve maintenance systems and keep all assets fully functional in safeguarding our waters. Launched in 2021, the Deep Blue Project has helped achieve zero piracy incidents in Nigerian territorial waters over four years and cut Gulf of Guinea piracy by more than 70%. Its assets include specialised aircraft, helicopters, vessels, interceptor boats and unmanned aerial vehicles. Graduates completed 33 training programmes across maritime security units, aviation, vessels, unmanned systems and command-control modules. The Minister commended collaborating agencies and urged the new personnel to uphold professionalism, teamwork and respect for the rule of law.
