Tinubu Is Not a Prefect Over Governors – Adviser Urges State Accountability

Tinubu Is Not a Prefect Over Governors – Adviser Urges State Accountability

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communication to President Tinubu, says the president has no power to oversee state governors like a prefect. He reminded Nigerians that our federal system requires state Houses of Assembly and citizens to monitor how allocations are spent at the state level. Bwala highlighted that local governments received ₦600 million this month and another ₦600 million is due soon, bringing total inflows to ₦2.26 billion between January and March. He said those funds could have revived primary healthcare, equipped schools, funded security measures, and subsidised community healthcare. He warned that without active citizen oversight of governors, even if the federal government sent $30 billion more, nothing would improve. Nigerians must demand transparency and hold their state leaders accountable.

True oh! Citizens plus state assemblies must join forces, demand regular reports, and push for transparency in budgeting, abi?

It seems odd that the president's adviser downplays oversight when allegations of misuse of allocations persist.

I'm not convinced state assemblies alone can curb mismanagement without stronger federal guidelines or oversight.

Citizens should attend assembly sessions and submit budget questions directly to representatives for clearer accountability.
