RCCG Leader Urges Nigeria to Overhaul Democracy and Cut Governance Costs
At the annual 21-day Destiny Encounter in Lagos, RCCG Assistant General Overseer Pastor Johnson Funso Odesola described Nigeria’s current democratic model as “unsustainable” and imposed without regard for local realities. He urged adoption of hybrid governance systems that blend traditional leadership with modern administration. Pointing to Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s regional achievements and successful Arab models, he warned that the country spends more on government than on infrastructure. Pastor Odesola also highlighted stark pay disparities in the security sector, where political appointees earn millions while career officers receive “peanuts.” He called for fairer remuneration, cost-cutting at all government levels, and prudent resource management. Announcing a new RCCG directorate for civic education, he encouraged members to register, collect PVCs, vote and defend their ballots. He stressed that prayer and respectful public engagement are vital for Nigeria’s transformation.
