Kwara Insecurity Forces Traditional Rulers to Flee
In parts of Kwara State, rising violence in Yoruba communities has driven many traditional rulers from their palaces. Reports say up to 30 obas abandoned their homes after kidnappings, bandit attacks and threats made life unbearable. The absence of these leaders has left communities vulnerable. Farmers are afraid to tend their fields. Businesses slow down. Dispute resolution stalls without the obas’ guiding role. Stronger security and better collaboration between government agencies and local institutions is essential. Allowing rulers to return safely would help restore peace, protect lives and preserve cultural heritage.
