‘No Easy Games’: Iroha Warns Super Eagles Against Complacency Ahead of AFCON 2027 Qualifiers
Former Super Eagles defender Ben Iroha says Africa’s football scene is now fiercely competitive and warns that Nigeria must not underestimate any opponent. After the AFCON 2027 qualifying draw placed Nigeria in Group L with Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania, Iroha urged the team to treat each match with full seriousness. Iroha, a member of Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON-winning squad and former assistant coach for the 2007 U-17 World Cup team, stressed that no fixture should be taken for granted. He highlighted the need for consistency and focus to secure qualification for the co-hosted tournament in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. “With every country eager to reach Africa’s biggest football event, the Super Eagles must give their best in every game,” Iroha said, adding that national pride and performance should drive the team throughout the campaign.
