Shomurodov’s Stunning Lob Wins Best Group Stage Goal at World Cup 2026

According to Completesports.com, Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov has been voted winner of the Best Group Stage Goal award at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026. He earned the accolade for an inch-perfect lob from a tight angle against DR Congo in Atlanta on June 27. The 31-year-old forward captured 36% of the vote, edging out Haiti’s Wilson Isidor (26.5%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Kerim Alajbegovic (24.9%). FIFA will hold four more voting rounds after each knockout stage, with a final vote to decide the overall goal of the tournament.

It does look impressive in highlight reels, but I wonder if the angle was really as tight as reported.

They dey hail this as the best group stage goal, but I'm not convinced it outshines some other extraordinary finishes.

Next time you watch your team train, focus on practicing tight-angle lobs and precision under pressure to replicate that technique.
