Court of Appeal Slams High Court’s Recognition of Abdulrahman-Led PDP Faction
The Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that the Federal High Court in Ibadan overstepped its authority by recognising the caretaker committee led by Abdurahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu. The appellate panel noted that no party had sought such a relief. The judges highlighted that the Ibadan convention, which formed the basis for that committee, was already nullified by the Supreme Court. They held that any leadership structure built on a nullified event has no legal footing. On appeal, the court refused to retry issues settled by superior courts and described the offending parts of the lower judgment as void. The decision effectively strips the Anyanwu faction of its legal basis.
