Big Sean on His Spontaneous Coachella Mental Health Speech and Bieber’s Praise

Big Sean on His Spontaneous Coachella Mental Health Speech and Bieber’s Praise

Big Sean recently explained why he spoke off the cuff to Justin Bieber during a surprise Coachella Weekend 2 set. He said he simply followed his heart when he urged Bieber to care for his mental health. The 38-year-old rapper revealed that both Justin and his wife, Hailey, reached out days later. Bieber reportedly told him, “Man, you drop big bars,” and said he was still riding the high from Sean’s words. Sean also spoke about the daily rituals that keep him grounded. He relies on prayer, journaling, and morning meditation to stay open to guidance and positivity before each show. The Beverly Hills event included a signing for Sean’s bestselling book, Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace. He hinted that a second book could be on the way as he continues to blend music with mindfulness.

What do you think prompted Big Sean to speak so freely about mental health at Coachella? Does it change how you view artist conversations on stage?

It's interesting how Bieber praised Sean's off-the-cuff message, but I wonder if spontaneous speeches resonate beyond the festival hype.

I get say he followed his heart, but I'm not convinced this is anything more than a celebrity sound byte dressed up as concern.

If you feel inspired by this moment, taking five-minute check-ins with yourself could be a simple first step toward better mental health.
