Ogun State Unveils ‘Resource Revolution’ to Transform E-Waste into Opportunity
Governor Dapo Abiodun has launched a “Resource Revolution” to position Ogun State as a circular economy leader in Africa. He warned against unsafe e-waste handling and directed industries, financial institutions, and waste collectors to meet global safety standards. The state will supply protective gear, specialized training, and formal processing hubs in Agbara, Sagamu, Ota and other industrial clusters. Manufacturers and banks must partner only with certified recyclers for secure data destruction and eco-friendly recycling. Stakeholders will draft an e-waste roadmap, form a multi-sector task force, and certify handlers. The initiative aligns with global sustainability goals to boost public health, create green jobs and unlock economic value from electronic waste. The national environmental agency praised Ogun’s approach as a model. Standards are also being set for solar panel and battery waste to secure Nigeria’s sustainable path.
