Kobape Residents Protest Imposed Candidate, Demand People’s Choice for Olu Stool
Tension has risen in Kobape as residents and traditional leaders reject efforts to install a Taylor family member on the Olu stool. They argue this move ignores local customs and the community’s own preference. Hundreds of indigenes marched peacefully to the Alake of Egbaland’s palace to back Aremu Olusegun Majekodunmi as their chosen candidate. Legal counsel Kehinde Amusa and community elders insist the people’s voice must guide the selection. Key stakeholders – including the Adele, Iyalode, Chief Imam, and CAN chairman – have all endorsed Majekodunmi. They warn against “moneybag politics” and urge state authorities and the Oba Traditional Council to respect Kobape’s collective decision. The stool has remained vacant since December 2021.
