NOUN Trains Over 65% of Nigeria’s Degree Nurses and Launches Emergency Health Centres
The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria announced that more than 65% of nurses with first degrees in Nigeria were trained by NOUN. He made the revelation at the launch of the new NOUN Emergency Health Centre at the Dutse-Alhaji Model Study Centre in Abuja. These on-campus centres will stabilise students and staff in emergencies before referrals to main medical facilities. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria confirmed the university’s leading role in nursing education. Staff have begun Red Cross training and some nurses will volunteer at the centres. By August, the number of equipped centres will double, ensuring that all 39 NOUN study centres nationwide offer first-aid support.
