Atiku Declares OPL 245 Dispute Unresolved Despite Government’s Settlement Claim

Atiku Declares OPL 245 Dispute Unresolved Despite Government’s Settlement Claim

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has rejected the attorney-general’s praise for the recent OPL 245 settlement. He called it “political theatrics” and insisted the dispute remains under active litigation. He also alleged key stakeholders were excluded from the process. Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi defended the deal as a landmark achievement. He accused critics of pursuing self-serving interests rather than national good and said the settlement will boost Nigeria’s economic landscape. Through his media aide, Atiku pointed to public documents showing ongoing legal objections. He urged transparency, respect for due process, and said his intervention serves only the public interest.

I'm with you—questioning whether this rejection signals deeper mistrust in our courts seems unavoidable.

It's curious how the attorney-general touts a settlement even though litigation is still ongoing and key stakeholders weren't consulted.

I'm not convinced this settlement holds water when key stakeholders keep getting sidelined and Atiku calls it political theatrics.
