Cross River Deputy Governor Peter Odey reportedly escaped unhurt after vehicles in his convoy were involved in an accident in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, on Sunday, August 9. The convoy was returning to Calabar from Obanliku after a stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed concession of Obudu Ranch Resort. A Government House press bus reportedly lost control near an Army checkpoint and crashed into three sandbag barriers. Some occupants were said to have sustained injuries, including one person with a leg injury. Several vehicles were reportedly damaged. Officials had not issued a formal statement, and the extent of injuries and damage was still being assessed. The incident is reportedly the third convoy accident involving the deputy governor in two months, raising concerns about the vehicles assigned to his office.

Being unhurt is welcome news, but the focus should not stop there; the circumstances of the crash also matter.
