APC Chairman Confirms Fubara Cleared Screening, Voluntarily Exited Race
APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has confirmed that Siminalayi Fubara successfully passed the party’s governorship screening before opting out of the primary. Fubara announced his withdrawal on May 20, saying he acted out of conviction and in the interest of peace and unity in Rivers State. He also pledged to support whichever candidate the party eventually picks. Speculation had grown that Fubara was disqualified after he declined to speak to journalists and several of his allies were reportedly screened out. Yilwatda dismissed those claims and denied any outside influence, noting the FCT minister is not an APC member and could not interfere. This clarification comes amid ongoing political tensions and shifting alliances in Rivers State as stakeholders prepare for the 2027 elections.
