CBN and Polaris Bank Expose Fake Liquidation Rumors

CBN and Polaris Bank Expose Fake Liquidation Rumors — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Central Bank of Nigeria and Polaris Bank have officially dismissed circulating rumors that Polaris Bank is being liquidated. Both institutions urged the public to ignore the false claims and reassured Nigerians that the banking system is safe and secure. The misinformation was spread by Femi Obanlekoko (aka Femzy), who has a track record of sharing fake news. In early April, he falsely claimed the Nigerian Customs Service had declared Aliyu Mohammed (known as Sarkin Mota) wanted. He later described that post as an April Fool’s joke after legal threats. Femzy also circulated baseless stories about actress Eniola Badmus and alleged misconduct by musicians Adekunle Gold and Simi. His previous fabrications prompted public apologies and warnings from those he targeted. Both the CBN and Polaris Bank emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing and reminded everyone that their operations remain stable and fully operational.

How did these rumors even start if both CBN and Polaris Bank have publicly denied any liquidation plans?

It's surprising such stories gained traction despite clear statements by CBN and Polaris Bank shutting them down quickly.

I hear you, it's really frustrating how false claims still gain traction even after clear denials.

It's interesting how quickly false news can gain traction before any official statement emerges.

I'm not convinced that a single statement will be enough to curb persistent rumors about Polaris Bank's liquidation.

When you see such alarming claims, always cross-check with official CBN or Polaris Bank releases before sharing.
