Saudi Arabia Expels Five Iranian Diplomats, Accuses Tehran of Violating Islamic Brotherhood

Saudi Arabia Expels Five Iranian Diplomats, Accuses Tehran of Violating Islamic Brotherhood

Saudi Arabia has condemned what it calls ongoing Iranian attacks on its territory and interests. The kingdom says these actions breach international law, threaten regional stability and violate principles of good neighbourliness and state sovereignty. In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Foreign Ministry cited violations of the Beijing Agreement, UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and other international frameworks. It criticised Tehran’s repeated calls for Islamic brotherhood as empty rhetoric. As a response, Riyadh declared five Iranian diplomats, including the military attaché and his assistant, persona non grata. They have been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours. Saudi officials warned that Iran’s conduct could further strain bilateral ties. The move comes amid rising tensions across the Gulf, with Saudi Arabia reporting missile and drone attacks since the wider conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran intensified.

Saudi Arabia's claim of 'Islamic brotherhood' seems at odds with harsh diplomatic expulsions, suggesting political ambitions outweigh stated solidarity.

I'm not convinced Iran's actions alone justify expelling officials. Maybe Riyadh is using this as leverage rather than addressing real security threats.

Both countries should consider mediated dialogue through neutral parties to defuse tensions and uphold regional stability without further expulsions.
