Preparing for Everything But Death: A Call to Reflect on Eternity

I recently heard a powerful sermon by the late evangelist Billy Graham. He pointed out that we plan for education, careers, marriage and even retirement—but we rarely prepare for death or judgment. He described three kinds of hell we already face: the inner torment of guilt and unrest, the broken world of greed and conflict, and the future reality of eternal separation from God. These vivid images challenge us to examine our own hearts and priorities. The greatest danger, according to Graham, is “spiritual inoculation.” Many churchgoers feel secure in faith yet lack true devotion. They mistake comfort and routine for genuine salvation. To live with confidence before eternity, Graham offered three steps: repent of sin, receive Christ by faith, and obey His teachings. Let us stop neglecting our eternal destiny and begin living with lasting purpose today.

I'm not convinced guilt alone qualifies as true inner torment, since healthy remorse can drive personal growth instead of despair.

Perhaps each of us could schedule a monthly reflection session to assess our spiritual well-being and future accountability.
