If Ribadu Remains NSA Despite Major Allegations, Why Must INEC Chairman Amupitan Step Down?
Many Nigerians are demanding INEC chairman Amupitan’s resignation over his APC membership. Yet the same public outcry did not force National Security Adviser Ribadu to leave office despite far deeper controversies. As NSA, Ribadu faced allegations of negotiating ransom payments to Boko Haram captors, referring to terrorists as “our brothers,” arming Fulani militia under a federal security scheme, and granting amnesty to repentant bandits. These reports sparked widespread criticism across Nigerian media and political circles. If Tinubu’s administration stood by Ribadu through those scandals, is it realistic to expect him to sack Amupitan for mere party affiliation? This double standard raises questions about our demands for accountability.
